One of the problems I had with Forsaken 1st Edition was that there wasn't enough of a difference from Apocalypse. I do like what I heard about Forsaken 2nd Edition though. It does away with the fluid difficulty numbers which tended to cause some confusion no matter how many years I played it.Īnd I played Old World of Darkness for many, many years. Forsaken and New World of Darkness games, I really like that system. Systematically Apocalypse is rougher around the edges. There's some thematic over laps between the the spirit world and things. They have a plot in there where the tribes of the Forsaken are in conflict with the ideological pure blooded werewolves. There's a ton more too it.īut Forsaken (at least 1st Edition) isn't so tied to a metaplot. Now that's a very, very fast and dirty summary. The war is basically lost and Gaia's warriors are left to deal with the consequences of that. Werewolf the Apocalypse comes with a metaplot of the impending end of the world at the hands (or maybe tendrils) of the cosmic force of death, decay and corruption. I'd be keen to hear if anyone has suggestions for other lines seeing as the whole urban-supernatural thing is pretty popular these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a game I'd not heard of. I love werewolf characters, and they seem to be relatively under-served, at least as PC's. I've not read the book myself - it only got a core book, no supplements - but it's definitely on my radar to pick up sometime. It might be worth looking at Monte Cook's World of Darkness, which takes the WoD races and puts them in a different setting, somewhat post-apocalyptic I believe. The new World of Darkness setting has a different vibe to it that's a bit hard to describe, but personally I'm not so keen on it. WtF is still good though, and it's definitely been improved by the second edition. It's a little bit goofy and it definitely feels of its time, but I still love it. I really like WtA, it was probably the first RPG I ever really got into.
